Breakups can occur for a variety of different reasons. However, if you have found yourself the victim of a breakup of a long term relationship, it may be possible that the reason for the breakup was because things had changed between the two of you in some sort of way. It happens frequently to couples of long term relationships. For example, people can change because of new friends or because they start hanging out at new places. These among other reasons can cause a change in someone. If your relationship resulted in a breakup because you have changed in some way, you can make him want you again by being who you were.

This may require you to make sacrifices, for instance, if you have begun hanging out with new friends which triggered the change, in order to make him want you again; you may have to change your group of friends. You need to take this into consideration. If these sacrifices are worth it in order to make him want you again, then there is no reason why you it can't workout.
Your breakup was caused by a change in you. Your ex may have broken up with you because he felt as if you weren't there for him anymore, you didn't have time for him, or you didn't care for him, among other reasons. To make him want you again, you need to identify what caused the break up, and fix it. If you're dedicated to making it work and he feels secure about that and you, then there's no reason why it shouldn't.
